Easy Healthy Yogurt Recipe
- Total Time: 1 day
- Yield: 4 pints 1x
Description
Plain yogurt with probiotics.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 gallon low temp vat-pasteurized grass-fed organic whole milk (Alexandre farms)
- 4 teaspoons plain Alexandre Farms 100% grass-fed A2 organic yogurt
Equipment:
- 4-pint sized glass canning jars with metal lids
- Large Instant Pot
Instructions
- Warm the milk to 110° in a saucepan on the stove.
- Mix 1 teaspoon plain yogurt with ¼ cup of warm milk in each of the 4-pint size canning jars.
- Fill each jar with the remaining milk. Stir well.
- Place the lids (no need for bands yet) on the jars and set the jars in the Instant Pot. Add water to the insert until it’s even with the milk/fill line in the jars.
- Select “custom” on the Instant Pot. Set temperature to 103°.
- Set time to 8 hours. Press start.
- When finished, remove the jars from the Instant Pot. Dry the lids. Seal the lids with bands and place the jars in the refrigerator overnight, or for at least 8 hours before stirring and serving.
- If you prefer thicker yogurt, pour off some of the whey before stirring it.
Notes
After making this yogurt the first time save a couple tablespoons and use it to make future batches. I used Alexandre Farms grass fed whole milk for this recipe. If you prefer to make a gallon of yogurt at a time simply double the ingredients and use quart-size jars.
If you prefer your yogurt thicker strain it using a fine mesh strainer lined with a coffee filter. Strain the whey until it reaches the desired thickness.
